Marc Forgione
Marc Forgione is a legend in TV Chef-land.
NYC's Iron Chef has created his signature restaurant featuring many of his signature dishes...and all with his signature "classic with a twist" style.
The bar "Forge" is cozy and filled with "regulars" who know about special "offer the menu" items to snack on at the bar. The cocktails are unique and refreshing and a good excuse to linger a little longer before your dinner reservation.
We chose the tasting menu for our visit...
- because we had a hard time choosing one or two dishes from the large selection of delicious-sounding options
- it was our last night in NYC and we wanted to go out BIG and BOLD!
The menu was explained well by our server before the procession started and every time a plate was delivered to our dish, it was announced without a pompous air or over-zealousness. It was like a friend just telling you what he has made for you.
Although the plates weren't large, we were MORE than full by the end and with after-thought...was wondering how we managed to eat it all.
I can't think of one course that I didn't like...which is exactly what a proper tasting menu should be - the Best of the Best.
This is one of those places that I will be recommending to people travelling to NYC for a special evening out.
FAV item? It's a toss up...I LOVED the Baked Oysters, but when I occasionally crave dessert, I will choose to eat that "EGG" every time!
