What I liked…

  • Location was decent. It was a short walk to the restaurants on King West, nearby cafés, unique shopping and a Loblaws, Winners and LCBO almost next door.
  • Kitchen appliances seemed pretty new.
  • One of the cupboards had instant coffee, Keurig pods, tea, instant oatmeal and a few other morning necessities.
  • There were plenty of extra pillows in a closet to choose from.
  • Washer, dryer and ironing set were handy.
  • I liked that there was ice in the freezer (but it was partially used bag).
  • The emailed check-in and check-out instructions were detailed and easy to follow.

What I didn’t like so much…

  • The number of stairs to the main floor was more than anticipated. I had a number of heavy items that needed to be brought upstairs. I would have changed my mind if I had known.
  • The stairs themselves were covered in old industrial carpeting that seemed like it was barely cleaned. Chipped paint on the front entrance and along the walls as well didn't put us at ease on arrival.
  • We weren't sure if it was the staff or if someone lives there in between rentals, but the dryer was still on when we checked in and was SO overloaded with sheets and towels that nothing was dry. I really didn't expect to have to go through the dryer for tea towels, hand towels or spare pillow cases. (I do enough laundry at home, thank you.)
  • The bathroom is so small with no counter space, nowhere to hang a hand towel and not even a hook on the door.
  • We noticed that the bathroom was not very clean either...tub and shower both looked like they barely got a once over.
  • The kitchen area was mostly clean, but the fridge was a little dingy inside and the stainless steel front of it was smeared and streaked like it was cleaned with a dirty cloth.
  • No instructions anywhere for the Keurig machine (we figured it out) or the TV (we gave up).
  • Wifi was just ok...seemed to be VERY slow at times.
  • Bedding was old and tired looking and tired feeling. Looked like a dorm room bedding set. (It was definitely not the bedding in their promotional pictures.)
  • Window shades in kitchen don't cover enough to block out the street lights and the noise from outside and neighbouring units was all night long (even on a weekday)
  • Just about tore my foot apart in the middle of the night on the old outlet that stuck out of the wall beside the bed.

Obviously, we weren't too pleased with this place. We are used to staying at hotels in the area, but thought we would try something that was more like an apartment.

They either need to upgrade and fix up the place or reduce their nightly rental fee to half of the $200+ per night that they are currently charging.
