What I liked…

  • Convenience to the airport. The hotel is located by Dixon/Airport Road and has a large parking lot for longer-term parking.
  • There is a Moxie's just off the lobby which is always bustling and is even open for early breakfast (which is unusual).
  • Even the standard rooms have a tiny kitchenette and a suite-like layout so it always feels like an upgrade.
  • The staff have always been pleasant, helpful and knowledgable about dealing with the airport.
  • Beds are always comfy.

What I didn’t like so much…

  • No bottled water in the room. Once I check-in to a hotel for the night, I don't like having to venture all the way down to the lobby to buy a bottle of water. I don't even mind paying for it, as long as it is handy.
  • A nightstand issue. I am hoping that all hotels will upgrade a bit by adding in a place to plug in a device. Even if it's not a USB port, I will take a standard outlet. I just don't like to have to pull the nightstand away from the wall and unplug an old alarm clock to plug in my phone.
  • Occasionally, I am checked into a room that looks a little worse for wear. They have been busy from Day One but it has been some time since they upgraded anything and some of the carpet, towels and furniture looks a little tired.

If I need an airport hotel that isn't right at the airport - and a decent place to dine onsite, this Sandman location is my go-to choice.

I heard that the Sandman chain is celebrating 50 years this year.

Happy Birthday, Sandman!
