South Africa Wine Tour – Day Two

It is going to be another full day of touring and tasting - FIVE (5) more wineries to visit on Day Two !

Now that I am in South Africa and have dined out quiet often, I have been able to sample some of the wines from my upcoming visits. I have already figured on a couple of early favourites...but who knows?

Day 2

Jordan

I was just recommended to try the 2013 Cobblers Hill red blend the other night and I LOVED it! It was a crowd pleaser, for sure! (It also won Outstanding Gold at the International Wine & Spirit Competition.)

They have a fairly large selection of wines that they produce, so I am sure that I will find a few more favourites that morning. (And did I mention they have a bakery onsite too?)

What a way to start the day!

Here is a link to their online gallery...

De Morgonzon

The first winery who agreed to a LIVE interview, they are also the creator of my new favourite chenin blanc - DMZ Chenin Blanc 2015.

Want to try it yourself? My LCBO app says there are 195 in Ontario!

Note: At the time of this page being written, my venue has blocked the LCBO site so I cannot post the link right now...Sorry. 🙁

Stark-Conde

Syrah and Cabernet Sauvignon are the stars at this estate! A couple of versions of each...and I am hoping to sample a vertical, if possible. (Meaning the same wine but from more than one vintage - side by side.)

It is our stop right before lunch, so this visit should get our palate ready for the afternoon!

Lunch & tasting at Delaire Graff

A lodge, spa, critically-acclaimed restaurant, winery that also boasts high-end boutiques. Sounds like a perfect setting to spoil ourselves for our last day in South Africa.

I am planning to preview a couple of their wines before Sunday so I can make a plan to get the most out of this visit.

Simonsig

This will be our last stop for Day Two . I have tried both their Frans Malan blend and their Chenin Avec Chêne so far from this producer and both were terrific!

If these two first tastes are any indication of the quality of their wines, I think we will be happy to finish our tour here.

Make sure to check July's issue for the video interviews with winemakers, as well as notes and reviews of my favourite wines - AND wineries!
